Club History (How we started)
The Brisbane Sporting Dog Club began in October 1989 when 12 dog owners came
together to train in Dogsport.
Ten foundation members headed for Adelaide where the first Dogsport trial was
held with 5 dogs and 1 bitch.
All entered the trial with the simple hopes of passing .
The outcome: Of 6 dogs entered, 4 qualified for SchH1!
These 4 dog-handler teams placed 1 st , 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th of 17 dogs entered!
The 1 st placed Schutzhund I also placed 2 nd overall - only 1 point behind the SchH3 dog that was
overall winner.
These results, while competing against far more established clubs from all over Australia, proved
that the foundation members had emerged as trainers in their own right.
The trial team from B.S.D.C on the club's second trip to Adelaide to compete!
(Judge Vic Wilms, Reg Worth, Simone Wilms, Wolfgang Mittlestadt, Fred and
Doreen Wardropper and Tracey Jackson)
.
Of note, the first ever Schutzhund III titles to be awarded in the state of
Queensland went to 3 B.S.D.C. members in 1994. (Reg Worth, Dean Hansen and Wolfgang Mittelstadt)
The club's first trial was held in August 1991, and the club continues to promote and support the
sport in Australia, regularly hosting internationally respected trainers from Europe, USA & Canada
for seminars, workshops and trials, many of which are open to interested parties from within the
wider canine community.
A majority decision by club members at a general meeting held in 2001 saw B.S.D.C. join with the
national association of Australian United Sportdog Clubs inc. (AUSC). The AUSC has clubs spread
across 4 states of Australia and New Zealand giving our sport true national representation.
